Just today, I went onto google chrome and began using normal websites such as Google drive. However, the moment I went to these sites, my Mac began showing Avast popups to the side that said :

They keep popping up, and only stop once I quit google chrome. Is there any solution to this? Is this a false positive that avast often reports?

It seems like you are not the only one. Other people have reported similar or identical problems. It appears that an update issued today has fixed this problem.

There are two ways to unblock any program or website from Avast blocking. Please note, you should do it only if you are 100% sure the blocked file is safe for you and your computer. Even if you own the blocked site, doesn’t mean it wasn’t hacked and injected with dangerous malware. How to stop avast for mac from blocking a plugin.

Please try to update your install of Avast and see if it fixes the issue.

EDIT : DO NOT RUN A FULL SYSTEM SCAN! PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED IT HAS CORRUPTED THEIR SYSTEMS!

Firstly, I have not seen this before but since you refer to Google Drive it might be possible that you have an infected file in your cloud storage. Although it would be a bit strange if Avast scans the actual file contents on your cloud storage (when only shown the relation to the file in a browser) as well as alarming the users based on a filename only.

Secondly, it might be possible that you have some kind of malicious browser plug-in or other kind of malware infection? Did you do some full system scans with the proper antivirus and anti malware software?

Thirdly, are you using some kind of proxy, VPN, uncommon DNS server or openly shared network? Those might be able to spoof or inject something using some kind of Man-in-the-Middle (MiTM) attack for example.

I was running an Avast scan and I found Malwaregen[trj] in the utorrent section. I never used utorrent. Never. And suddenly this comes up. Does this mean someone was spying on me through a rootkit?

Jun 29, 2016  Features Avast Free Antivirus for Mac offers numerous, configurable features. The free features include an antivirus scanner, a firewall, reports, and that’s it. Scan – Avast offers a free antivirus scanner that you can use to scan files, folders, hard drives, and your computer. Does avast free for mac work with windows xp. Sep 18, 2017  Avast Free Mac Security is free. It supports Macs running any version of OS X, as long as they have 128MB of RAM and 750MB of available disk space. Avast Free Mac Security keeps Macs free. Need premium Mac antivirus protection? Say hello to Avast Security Pro. Avast Security Pro includes all the malware-crushing moves of its free little brother, along.

Malwarebytes never showed anything. However, the interesting thing is when I ran malwarebytes, it said 'scanning adware', etc. And in-between, there comes 'scanning trojan'. And it comes up with nothing.

Avast says that it couldn't scan 18 files or something. Is my Macbook hacked? Is someone spying on me?

And by the way, I did install utorrent.

It might be more probable that you downloaded a torrent that had some malware in it. I doubt the guys over at uTorrent would risk putting malware in their binaries :) (unless you downloaded uTorrent from an unofficial source).

What Is Vbs Malware Gen

A trojan can be used for spying, but more often than not, unless it is a targeted attack, it usually means other things such as stealing your credentials, stealing files, adding your computer to a botnet to mine bitcoins or click ads etc.

Antiviruses could be wrong. But better safe than sorry. Unless you can eliminate the threat, you might want to consider reinstalling your Mac OS.
